About Us Our History

Climate Futures was founded in Stockholm, Sweden in late 2005 by Jesse Uzzell, one of the early pioneers in the carbon market. Mr. Uzzell started working with the Kyoto Protocol and CDM/JI in 1998 when he worked at Det Norske Veritas (DNV) in Oslo, Norway as part of the team developing DNV’s CDM/JI Validation and Verification Services. During that period he was fortunate to work with leading companies and organizations forming emissions trading policy initiatives and developing pilot and early-CDM/JI projects.

From 2005 to 2008 Climate Futures worked exclusively with other companies to establish their CDM/JI project portfolios in China and Eastern Europe during the boom years of the carbon market. From 2009 to the present our company has grown organically to be a group focusing on different aspects and regions of the carbon market with a focus on the post-Kyoto carbon market. Recently we opened our office in Hangzhou, China to work closer with our clients and projects in the Asia region. In 2011, Mr. Liu Jianguo re-joined the Climate Futures team and is Director for the Asia region.

Climate Futures continues to be involved in leading-edge developments of the carbon market, being one of the few companies to have also worked with Green Investment Schemes  (GIS), forestry projects, AAU sales, and now the REDD+ mechanism.
